Reproductions of famous pilgrimage statues of the Madonna from Altötting and Maria Zell, and of the Loretokindl miraculous statue of the Child Jesus, are displayed here. Pilgrimages often lasted several days and pilgrims liked to bring back souvenirs: from Altötting it was clay figures, from Eichstätt little vials of Saint Walburga’s oil, from St. Wolfgang it was miniatures of St. Wolfgang's axe. Places of pilgrimage also sold Schluckbildchen (devotional pictures for swallowing). These were little pieces of paper depicting an icon – often the pilgrims’ Madonna. They were used as religious folk medicine and were part of the “spiritual medicine cabinet”. When swallowed, the little notes were supposed to have healing powers.
