As the crow flies, Landshut in Bavaria and Ried in Upper Austria are only 106 kilometres away from each other.
Landshut was the seat of government for Lower Bavaria, making it the capital city for the district of Ried until 1506. The historical relationship and the contacts between the Ried Trade Fair and the Lower Bavaria Show in Landshut have linked the two towns for over half a millennium. In 1974 Ried and Landshut were twinned with each other. To mark the 25th anniversary of the twinning, the two towns exchanged plaques. You’ll find these set in plaster in front of the town hall.
