Around 240 years ago, the parish cemetery around the church was still in use. Court decrees issued in 1783 by Emperor Joseph II made it necessary to relocate the cemetery outside of the gates of Ried.
The next cemetery was situated on the former Armen-Gottesacker graveyard at the little church of St. Anna in the west of Ried.
Another 100 years later, this cemetery too could not expand any further. The new cemetery was created on Schärdinger Strasse. It was created between 1892 and 1893 in the Historicist style, in accordance with plans by architect Raimund Jeblinger.
The row of houses from the Innviertel Museum of Folklore to the former rectory is literally built “Im Moos”, or in moss, which is a reference to the dampness of the ground.
