Viele H\u00e4user des Hauptplatzes hatten in fr\u00fcherer Zeit hier ihre St\u00e4lle und Mistst\u00e4tten. Der Hintere Platz stank vermutlich &#8211; je nach Wetterlage &#8211; zum Himmel. Das Rentamt von Burghausen war die Verwaltungsbeh\u00f6rde und \u00fcberpr\u00fcfte den Markt regelm\u00e4\u00dfig. Der Rentmeister beanstandete immer wieder die hygienischen Zust\u00e4nde. Allm\u00e4hlich wurden die \u00dcbelst\u00e4nde beseitigt.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Urspr\u00fcnglich war der Platz an beiden Enden geschlossen. Ein kleines \u201eSchl\u00e4ft\u00fcrl\u201c bzw. \u201eSchlupft\u00fcrl\u201c erm\u00f6glichte tags\u00fcber den Fu\u00dfweg vom Ro\u00dfmarkt in den westlichen Vormarkt. Nachts war dieser Durchlass versperrt.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Das Sch\u00e4rdinger Tor war somit bis ins 19. Jahrhundert die einzige Ein- und Ausfahrt des Platzes.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: left;\">Ab dem 16. Jh. hei\u00dft der Platz Ro\u00dfmarkt, da fr\u00fcher hier Pferdem\u00e4rkte abgehalten wurden. Heute werden am Ro\u00dfmarkt keine Pferde mehr verhandelt. Es gibt dennoch j\u00e4hrlich einen gro\u00dfen Pferdemarkt samt Festzug.
