Peter Dimmel was born in Vienna in 1928. He is the son of the painter Herbert Dimmel. He studied at the Vienna Academy of Applied Arts with Professor Obsieger. After the end of the war, he worked as a ceramicist at the Angermayer ceramics workshop in Eberschwang for 4 years. Between 1949 and 1957 he continued his education at the Linz School of Art and then became a freelance sculptor in Linz.
The deaf artist has been actively involved in issues affecting deaf people since 1962. His key achievement in this context is the establishment of Austrian Sign Language as a separate language in the Upper Austrian state constitution and the Austrian federal constitution. Peter Dimmel has created works for the Ried retirement home chapel, the seminary chapel and the Riedberg church.
