Johann Baptist Wengler was born in 1816 in St. Radegund in the Innviertel. He studied at the Vienna Academy, primarily focussing on historical painting and the design of altarpieces and devotional icons. When the 1848 revolution began, he left Vienna for Munich. From there he returned to the Innviertel. He dedicated himself to the depiction of rural life until his desire for travel and adventure took him to America.
Wengler’s portraits of his parents and his panoramic views of the Innviertel are worthy of note. Johann Baptist Wengler died in 1899.
