The colourfully painted cut iron crosses come from Innviertel cemeteries. The image on the front is often a depiction of the Virgin of Mercy. Under her outspread cloak is the family of the person who has died. Family members who have died previously are indicated by a small red cross. On the back there is often a brief biography – for example:

“Here rests in God the Virtuous Agnes Schwirin, who was in life a retired person residing at the Schüln estate in Altmansdorf and who, after receiving the last rites, died on 3 March at 1 o’clock of the morning Anno Domini 1838 aged 70 years. God grant her eternal peace Amen.”
