One domestic production facility was the Freudenthal Glassworks near Frankenmarkt, which manufactured enamel-painted glass containers from 1716 until about 170 years ago.
It produced bottles for spirits decorated with the tree of life and pairs of doves. Bottles painted with figures were given in pairs as gifts. They showed a man and wife giving each other a burning heart or raising a toast to each other. These brightly-coloured glasswares were mostly bought as lovers’ gifts or wedding gifts.
