Karl Schmoll von Eisenwerth was born in Vienna in 1879 and studied at the Munich Academy. His studies took him to Rome and Paris. In 1907 he was appointed Professor of Drawing, Painting and Design at the University of Stuttgart. He taught here for almost forty years, focussing on ornamental and figure drawing, watercolours and decorative design. Schmoll von Eisenwerth was also a member of the Innviertel Artists’ Guild. He was a cousin of Hugo von Preen, from whom he bought the Osternberg estate. 

 

Schmoll von Eisenwerth’s works, for instance the painting “Frau am felsigen Ufer” (woman on a rocky bank) were in the art nouveau style. Karl Schmoll von Eisenwerth died in 1948.
