The Ried church tower was built in 1731/1732 by Ried master mason Johannes Zeregetti, and eventually provided with a spire.
In 1854 it was struck by lightning. For 14 years, until 1868, it had a temporary roof. The height of the tower was then increased by a storey and it was crowned with a new dome. 61 years later, on 4 July 1929, another severe storm swept the tower helmet onto the church square yet again. Only one short year later, the damage had been repaired; the ceremony to place the cross on the tower was held on 29 June.
